Stool Softeners

I was in need of some stool softeners and after calling my OB, they told me which ones I could take while breastfeeding. I took the minimum amount and I noticed that Adisyn's bowel movements are all liquid. I called the Pediatrician to make sure it was ok & the nurse said it's normal for breastfed babies to have watery BMs. I guess I'm worried because they're all water and at the same time the stool softeners aren't helping me at all. I want to take more and the doctor didnt' seemed concerned, but what does everyone think? Anyone have any suggestions? I also tried increasing my fiber and water, but no luck.

The stool softeners mostly don't really get into your blood - they stay in your digestive system, where they can do some good. Breastfed baby poop is usually the color and texture of cheap yellow mustard. I would go ahead and take enough stool softener to get results.

I had good luck w/ Metamucil & stool softners together. I was told both are safe. They make Metamucil powder w/o a flavor that can be mixed into anything. I swear you can't taste it at all.

I'm not taking them anymore because things have gotten back to normal. But, Olivia still has very watery BMs.

A magnesium supplement may help as well. Natural Calm, while tart, is a good high quality magnesium supplement.
