Crafts for Kids hot topic: Craft time?

Do you have a regular craft time with your kids or do you do it whenever the mood strikes them (or you)? Tell us a little bit about how you do crafts at your house -- when you do crafts, where you store materials, how you get your ideas, etc.

Now that my kids are older they are pretty self sufficient when doing crafts. We have big bin the attic and a plastic 3 drawer caddy that has tons of craft things in it. Basically they have free access to that.

We do crafts in the kitchen at the table with a plastic tablecloth laid out. Of course if it's a special project or specific craft like maybe mosaic tile stones or something then I will help out. We usually save those kinds of things for rainy days.

My kids are also both big scrapbookers. We have finished room in the attic where we all scrapbook together.

When dd was about 3-4 years old, I remember crafting with her a lot. I'd find cooking crafts, outdoor projects, and bath activities as well as your standard seated-at-a-table crafts. We'd do things pretty spontaneously, but I'd usually take some time every couple of weeks to plan things so that I was sure I had all the materials we needed. Then, when a good moment presented itself, we'd go for it.

I had a shelf full of bins that I got at Target that kept most of our things -- glue, crayons & markers, scissors, different kinds of paper, paints & brushes, etc.

I'd love to start doing the same with ds now. Must get organized!
