Arrow September '07 discussion thread: Mommy Tracked

Here is our discussion thread for Mommy Tracked, our September group read. As always, be cautious of reading the posts below if you haven't finished, as they may contain spoilers.

Well, I was waiting for someone else to start, since I've never actually been part of a book discussion before, but no one else is jumping in, either. So, here goes...

This was definitely a fun read, very quick and enjoyable. I was impressed by how much I felt I "knew" the characters in such a relatively short novel, and I was able to identify with some part of each one of them. I'm not assuming that any part of Mommy Tracked was inspired by events here on StorkNet, but I couldn't help but laugh at the line about the kids going up the slide the wrong way.

It seems like there was something in the third chapter that made me say "Hmmmmm" but I can't remember what it was. I'll get back to you.

I really think that Whitney's writing is getting better and better with each book. It is so neat to watch how her writing has evolved. I also like how she put so much of herself into each of the characters and into her writing. (Law, everything 80s, etc)

I tried to pick a favorite character, but I found it nearly impossible. I liked something about each one. And I liked how each of them overcame their issues by the end of the book.

Question

The characters in this book are so real! Whitney, I was wondering if after you finish writing a book, do you still think about the characters?? Or once a book is finished, it's time to say goodbye to the characters?

Thanks everyone!

K.C., it really depends. First, the characters are all very, very real to me. I can picture them clearly in my head. Some of then I fall in love with . . . some of them I'm so sick of by the time I finish, I want them to go away and leave me alone forever!

I've written two books in a a Young Adult series under the pen name Piper Banks (the first one will be out in November), and I actually miss the main character, Miranda, when I'm not writing about her.

Each book I read of hers, I am always looking for parts of Whitney in them, so when I read that slide comment. I just assumed that was a 'sn' moment.

I am late on this thread, but just had to say that I loved this book. I was laughing out loud, and had a blast reading about each story line. I finished it hours ago, but have been in the best mood all day! Thanks Whitney!

Another one late jumping in on this thread - have to say I did enjoy this one very much - I read it in about a day and a half. I quickly got engaged with the characters and was so interested to find out how it all turned out.

Late jumping in on this one too -- just wanted to tell you, Whitney, how much I enjoyed Mommy Tracked. I think the characters in this one are so roundly developed and I felt engaged in each of their personal stories.

On a personal note, As someone who avoided private practice, I take heart in Juliet's career choice (hey, I've got the same job!).

A great read all around.

Loved it.

I can't believe I missed the slide comment though. I caught other SN moments, which always give me a giggle, but I missed the slide thing, dang it
