I'm into chapter nine now, and this book is such fun! I knew Jeeves would be a great character, but I am surprised at how much I am enjoying Bertie Wooster. What a goof!

For example, I love the scene at the beginning of chapter five when Jeeves is preparing a substitute so that he can go on vacation. Bertie overhears Jeeves explaining, "You will find Mr. Wooster an exceedingly pleasant and amiable young gentleman, but not intelligent. By no means intelligent." etc. Bertie's response is perfect. He decides not to barge in and yell at Jeeves, because he knows that will probably have no effect. He says, "But the memory rankled, if you know what I mean. We Woosters do not lightly forget. At least, we do -- some things -- appointments, and people's birthdays, and letters to post, and all that -- but not an absolute insult like the above. I brooded like the dickens."

Writing from Bertie Wooster's point-of-view is genius. He is hilarious!

Caryl, I think everybody needs a Jeeves. He has so much common sense! You're right that having the stories told from Bertie's point of view is sheer genius.

I like reading Wodehouse as I do the 44 Scotland Street books. If I've had a particularly tough day, reading a chapter before bed makes me smile. If I have a few seconds and don't need to think hard, reading a quick chapter fits the bill. And there are a lot of Wodehouse stories and books to read!
