I am so glad I finally read this story! I'd heard for a long time that it's definitely worth a read, especially around Christmastime, and I may make a habit of this every year.
I loved the details: the baby buggy they used for all kinds of things, the coffee name contest, the money, bills and coins, saved in a secret spot and carefully counted at the end of the year. All of these little things and more told me so much about the dear characters in the story. Favorite moments: buying whiskey from Mr. Haha Jones, bringing home the Christmas tree, giving each other kites for Christmas and then flying them together: "As for me, I could leave the world with today in my eyes." So sweet. And the ending is bittersweet. It left me wanting to learn more about "Buddy's" childhood friend, and I think Capote did write more stories featuring her. I'll have to find out.
