Week of 12/16: What are you reading now? What's waiting on your nightstand?

What are you reading this week? What are you looking forward to reading soon?

You can just list the book or books you're working on, or you can add a few sentences about them, or you can write a short review for us, if you like!

Share your book experiences with us here.

I finished Love Medicine, so Hooray! for me. I was sick, so I put aside all weighty books and read several Georgette Heyer novels. Fluffy, amusing and light, they were exactly what I was looking for. I'm still working on The Birchbark House.

My to-be-read pile is threatening to take over the house:

Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver - this has been on my pile for weeks now, but I never seem to be in the mood to start it.

Between Ourselves: Letters Between Mothers & Daughters edited by Karen Payne - with many thanks to Kathleen for mentioning this last week.

The Oxford Illustrated History of Britain - I probably won't read the whole thing, but I'd like to read some of it and the illustrations look wonderful

What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew by Daniel Pool - I've read that this is not entirely reliable, but it sounds like fun anyway.

Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman - a medieval history that looks rather intimidatingly large for holiday reading.

I read several books over the weekend but can't remember a single one at this moment. Hmm, why do I read if I can't remember. Oh, yeah, because it feels so good at the time.

Per SusanH's recommendation, I picked up a Jennifer Crusie book and plan to read that. I think it's called Crazy for You.

OH, and I'm half way through a book Lisa Jo recommended called Smart Mom's Baby-sitting Co-op Handbook: How We Solved the Baby-sitter Puzzle. I'm taking a "Toddler and You" type class after the New Year and hope to start a Co-op from that. I'm getting excited because my husband and I have never been out to dinner alone or gone to a single cinema since our daughter was born. I'm ready now to do that.

Susan, my TBR pile is pretty dangerous, too!

Ursula, the Babysitting Co-op book sounds really neat. Thanks for posting about it! I'm going to look for it at my library.

I am still working on Skipping Christmas. Sigh. I have not been skipping Christmas, and so have had very little time to read. It's such a slim little book, I feel like I should have finished it by now!

I did finish Love Medicine, and I'll post about it soon on the last discussion thread.

Next up: My aunt just gave me the newest Maya Angelou book, A Song Flung Up to Heaven, and it's another slim volume, so I think I'll try to get through that one during the holidays.
