Glasses

The girls had an eye Dr appt today because at their 5 year exam, Brooke didn't do well on her eye exam. Brooke and Jenna both need glasses and Hannah may need them in the future. He wants to recheck her in a year and see how her eyes look. Brooke has a pretty bad astigmatism and that's why she needs them. Jenna's eyes weren't as bad as Brooke's but her eyes are really different from each other and he hopes that having glasses now while her vision is still developing will help her vision in the future when she's older. I hope so!! He wants to see them in 2 months to see how the glasses are working for them. I kind of figured they'd end up with bad vision because my eyes used to be so bad before I had my laser eye surgery. I had severe myopia and that is hereditary and I always feared I'd pass it down to them. I was glad that it wasn't myopia that they have but it could still develop, I didn't get glasses until the 6th grade. They are taking it very well and are excited about getting glasses so I'm so happy about that. Growing up having glasses I was always insecure about them and I couldn't wait until I finally was able to get contacts. So I'm glad that it's been positive for them and I hope because they are only in Kindergarten that kids won't tease them because they are all stil young. We are picking up Jenna's tomorrow and Brooke's won't be in until next week because her lenses need to be special ordered because of her eyes being worse. They both ended up picking out pink frames, but different shapes, they are cute!

Does anyone have any advice for me or them? I'd appreciate it. I'm kind of bummed out by this, I know it's not a big deal compared to most health issues but it's something they are going to have to deal with for life and it was such an aggravating part of my life until 2 years ago when I had my surgery. I know I'm lucky that it's only their eyes and not something serious but I'm still sad about it. I'm sure once they get them and were all used to them I'll be ok.

No advice~ but sorry they have to have glasses, whether its a big deal or not is subjective, and you have every right to be upset about it. Hope the girls love their glasses.

no advice - I have worn glasses since I was 6 - can't remember anything before glasses. They will get used to them & love them & then hate them. As long as they pick out glasses that fit & they can see!
