Double strollers AGAIN

I know this question has been posted before, but given we have new people dropping in here all the time, I thought I'd post again, as we are getting down to the wire for buying a double stroller. What one do you have.... do you like it? Hate it?? What features do you like most? Like least?

We have a 2 yr old, and will be having a new baby in Nov. So I'd like one with room to grow so to speak, so my 2 yr olds legs aren't wrapped around her neck. We plan to get a big one - like graco or Jeep, or peg perego, and then a small lighter side by side one as well. So opinions on both types would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!!!

Liz

I have the Graco DuoGlider and absolutely love it. I got it when my youngest was born and my middle one was 2. I really like the stadium seating and the fact that the back seat reclines completely for sleeping babies. I still use it frequently. The only 2 complaints I have is it is really big and no cup holder for mom. I have a Subaru Impreza and it takes up most of the trunk. So I can't buy anything big when I go to the mall with the kids because I would have no way to get it hom.

We used the Graco Duo Glide when the girls were younger. I really liked it. It folds up nicely, has a nice size basket underneath, and the back seat lies flat for a sleeping infant.

Also, it's not very heavy to lift in and out of your trunk compared to some of the other double stollers.

I love my Graco Duoglider. My infant lays flat in the backseat. I have a nice big cargo basket.

Some models come with cupholders for mom, some dont. I made sure to only look at models with cupholers! Gotta have it

Its just as big and heavy as other tandems.

I love the how smooth it drives and it corners well. No complaints on this stroller.

I have been looking at double strollers too, and I don't know if this is a concern, but weight of the children is an issue.

I have a big guy for a two year old at 35 pounds. When he's three, he may be closer to 40. The Graco Duoglide only recommends up to 40 pounds per kid, the Jeep (which was the one we were interested in) only recommends up to 35 per kid. The Baby trend, which may be our default choice, goes up to 45 pounds per kid.

Jogging strollers are better, usually maxing out at 50 pounds per kid.

I have an older Peg Perego Tender and I highly recommend it. I think the newer ones are lighter but I haven't used one. I love ours - lots and lots of room in the seats for the kids and Peg makes high quality stuff. I bought mine used and have had no problems with it. I used it for walking outside on sidewalks and also occasionally in malls. My older dd (21mo at the time my second was born) sat in the front and younger in the back (fully reclined when she was small) This worked out very well for us.

I also have a side by side Combi Savvy Twin (also a couple of years old) and it's just OK. Seats are very narrow, no footrest, and the small wheels are awful. It was very difficult to use on sidewalks because the wheels were constantly getting stuck in the cracks. It was a pain in the neck to get in and out of stores and I found myself frustrated with it a lot. It also just feels flimsy. It is lightwt (15lbs) and folds very small. I used to keep it in my car but recently gave it away to a friend.

If I were you, I'd go with the Peg. You really can't beat the quality and durability. I don't know if it will accept an infant carrier but that was never a requirement for me.

Hey Liz, not sure if I posted this to you before when you asked about double strollers, but here is my two cents worth:
Wait until you have the baby before getting anything, that is what I did. I never have gotten around to getting a double stroller cause I have found that I just don't need it (and boy am I glad that I saved the money!). When Jacob was a newborn, I NEVER ventured out by myself with the two of them. If DH and I took the boys out, we just put each of them in their own stroller (and this is what we still do), and thus we can each stroll where we want and how fast we want. Now that Jacob is a bit older, if I take the both of them out by myself, I just put him in the baby bjorn, or a sling would work, and put Jonah in the stroller. I thought this arrangement would be easier cause I had heard from so many people that it is sometimes hard to maneuver those big double strollers.
If you wait until the baby is born, you can take the kids and test drive them and see which one they fit the best in. Good luck!
