How To Make Chili Less Tomatoey & More Beefy

I like chili that's less of a tomato base and more of a beef base. I can't quite figure out how to do it without making it too salty or something. Any suggestions/recipes?

I'll go look at my chili recipe in a bit...I really like it, but I don't remember exactly what goes in it besides the spices and meat.

I fry up my hamburger with the garlic, onion, chili powder, cumin then I add beef broth and then enough beans to give it the real body. for the tomato part, I just add in fresh diced tomatos. if I have them on hand, I also throw in fresh diced peppers. No complaint yet on it.

I grew up on thechili that was filled with tomato juice, diced tomatos, very little hamburger and very few beans. basical spicey tomato beef soup. Granted it was good, but like you, prefer a more beefy soup

I checked...mine has a lot of meat, but also a lot of tomato product, so probably not what you are looking for.

I guess if I wanted it to be less tomatoy I would put in something like whole tomatoes cut up instead of say tomato paste. I went and looked for recipes with no tomato in and they looked yucky to me. But that is just me, if you google no tomato chili you will find some recipes. Maybe one of those will be what you like.

good luck
