I have always made Shay's baby food. I would chop up pieces, run them through the food processor and poor into ice cube trays. Now that she is getting more into table food, she doesn't want the processed food anymore - she wants food that she can feed herself. That leaves out the cube method, but I would still like to have some frozen fruits and veggies handy for quick and easy meals and snacks for her. Is it better to buy the fresh fruits and veggies and cut them myself and freeze them in zip lock bags or to buy the prefrozen veggies? I know that canned food has even less nutritional value than frozen so I try to stay away from that all together but I do keep some on hand for emergencies.

TIA

I make Kieran's food, too, and also freeze cubes. You can freeze pieces, but you might want to freeze a couple of pieces in an ice cube tray, then transfer it to a freezer bag so that the pieces don't all stick together.

What I have in mind is to cut the fruit into managable chunks, then freeze them spread out on a cookie sheet. Once frozen, you can pop them in to a ziploc and store.

Oh, I just read in Heloise this morning about buying sweet potatoes, baking a sheetful, then freezing them for use later. I'm liking this idea for us adults, too.
