I really enjoy Mary Higgins Clark novels. They're very fast reads.

I can't think of any on particular book or movie, but if I do, I'll post again.

I'm going to add another recommendation. Any of the Agatha Christie's Poirot movies, with David Suchet playing Hercule Poirot, are excellent. Suchet is the perfect Poirot, in my mind. Here are a couple of links:

Agatha Christie's Poirot, Vol. 1 (videocassette) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1569383758/ref=nosim/storknet00)

Agatha Christie's Poirot -- Complete Collection (DVD) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000068QOE/ref=nosim/storknet00)

I saw many of these on PBS' Mystery! I've also checked them out of the library. Enjoy!

Oh, I like those too, Caryl, but I'm an even bigger fan of the movies with Peter Ustinov as Poirot. :)

I'm not much of a mystery fan, so I'm not sure what books and films to suggest. I did really like Rebecca, both the novel and the Hitch**** film. Any Hitch**** film is worth watching if you're in the mood for a mystery. My favorites are Dial M for Murder and To Catch a Thief.

Oh my goodness, the censoring software is obviously not a Hitchc0ck fan!

Susan, I am LOL!

My favorite Alfred H. movies are Vertigo and Rear Window. I haven't seen To Catch a Thief... I'll have to check my library!

I saw Death on the Nile with Ustinov, but it was after I'd seen lots of David Suchet playing Poirot, and they are so different! I prefered Suchet, but I'll have to try another Ustinov one again soon. He's so well-known for his portrayal of Poirot! Do you have a particular one you'd recommend? I just looked him up on Imdb, and it looks like Death on the Nile was his first.

Has anyone read any of Anne Perry's mysteries? I've enjoyed two or three of her Charlotte & Thomas Pitt ones. Here's the first in the series:

The Cater Street Hangman (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0449208672/ref=nosim/storknet00)

These mysteries are set in Victorian England, and also examine the roles of women (and men) at the time, as well as the class structure.

I've been reading a *lot* of mysteries lately, and I have to say that Dame Agatha is still my favourite author. I highly recommend 'Sleeping Murder,' 'Nemesis,' and 'At Bertram's Hotel' for the Miss Marple books; 'Murder on the Orient Express' (possibly her best ever), 'Hallowe'en Party' and 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd' for M Poirot; and 'Death Comes as the End,' 'By the Pricking of My Thumbs' and 'Ten Little Indians' for miscellaneous.

I'm also getting into Minette Walters. We read 'The Sculptress' here some time back, and I wanted to read more of her books. So far 'The Breaker' has been the best of them. Other good authors are Diane Mott Davison, Sue Grafton, and of course, the master of them all: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle!

My alltime favourite mystery movies are 'Murder on the Orient Express' (Poirot played by, of all people, Albert Finney, and he's great) and 'The Legend of Lizzi Borden,' with Montgomery. I love anything the Beeb does with British mysteries, but the immortals of that set are Jeremy Brett as Holmes, Joan Hickson as Miss Marple, and David Suchet as Poirot.

Hmm, Caryl. If you didn't like Death on the Nile, then you probably just won't get into his portrayal. I also liked Evil Under the Sun and I agree with Jer that Albert Finney was great in Murder on the Orient Express.

While I enjoyed The Man Who Knew Too Much, my husband has won me over to the much funnier The Man Who Knew Too Little.

My favorite 'mystery' was more horror- I like the Twilight Zone episode about the banker who hid in the vault on his lunches to read, and one day the world ended on his lunch break but he survived.. all the time in the world to read his books now. Definately the best one ever.

Burgess Meredith, "Time At Last"-- one of the best ever, I agree! That's dh's favorite episode. I also like "To Serve Man," where they find out that the benficent aliens are there to farm (and eat!) humans!
