View Full Version : Could you lovely ladies possibly help me?

I wonder if I can ask a favour? I had a difficult first birth and I am convinced it was becasue of unnecessary intervention and half-trained midwives. I have expressed my fears over this birth to my midwife (who is not present at the birth - strange country this) and she has referred me to a specialist who is very keen on VBAC. She can hardly be keener than me, but that's another story. It is unusual to be referred to a specialist in this country and I really want to take advantage.

My midwife wants me to prepare some questions to ask her when I see her on the 6th. I said that's not necessary as I shall just be telling her what I want!!!! Anyway she wants me to prepare some questions.

I can only think of two. What are the statisics for VBAC and why is it ever necesary to intervene at all? Why not just leave it to nature? (I know about heart beat strength and such, but cannot think of any other reason. For example they tried to break my waters. WHY?)

If you ladies can think of any other questions, I would be very grateful. :)

TIA

Perhaps you can take your list of desires and turn them into questions.

For example: I do not want any interventions. - becomes - Are you willing to allow me to labor with no interventions?

and

I want to remain mobile during labor. - becomes - Is there adequate room in the labor area for me to remain mobile during labor?

Just a suggestion.

How about:
What methods and tools will you use to help me have a sucessful VBAC?
I agree about turning your wishes into questions.

I just want to echo the idea of making your wishes into your questions. Or, just the opposite - what you don't want could turn into a question.

But I wouldn't feed them too much information about what you do know. It isn't uncommon for that knowledge to turn on you in an interview or the practitioner can just tell you exactly what they think you want to hear - otherwise known as "bait and switch".

Let us know how it goes!
