my dh and i have been dealing with infertility for 7 years now. we have read tons and tons of books about the subject. it seems like all the books we read end with the couples getting pregnant and having the baby. well, that doesn't happen for us. so these books usually make us feel like total failures.
however, i just finished reading O Come Ye Back To Ireland by Christine Breen and her husband. it is beautiful. it's a true account of their first year living in ireland. they mention about halfway through that they found out they couldn't have kids. it was so refreshing to finally have an author i can connect with. the book did not end with her getting pregnant. it ended with them talking about buying a pig farm. :)
they described their despair and then talked about the burrens region of ireland and how desolate that area is. i really connected there. my womb is barren, and sometimes my life seems empty. but knowing that others are experiencing the same thing really helps.
i don't want this post to be a downer. i received hope from this book. if i never have kids, my life still has meaning. my husband and i support one another. we still matter. i have finally found a book that didn't make me feel like i wasn't worth anything because i'm not a mother.
also, the book has some hilarious parts. my dad goes to ireland every year to visit friends. he read the book and loved it. he says it really shows the love in the irish peoples' hearts.
