I want to have a homebirth (witha midwife) with my next child, which would be hard to do since I had C/S with my DD and I my SO thinks homebirths are for nutjobs, but since it's my body I think I get to decide in the end.
After you have the baby at home, though, how do you get a birth certificate and SSN#? Does the midwife do it? Do I do it?

I am a nutjob. LOL
Having a homebirth with a midwife with this child. I think midwives can help you with that information. In fact I have been thinking the same thing and will ask mine about it tomorrow.
I am in Canada so my answers may be different than yours. So maybe you could ask on the "ask a midwife" board

My midwives filed the paperwork. :)

My midwives did it too. However, to believe that every woman prior to 1850 was a nut job is a little harsh, don't you think? :)

I guess that makes me the supernutjob of all time ;)
I've had three homebirths and one hospital birth with no drugs, a total of 112 hours of labor and an average baby size of nearly 9lbs.
It varies from state to state how you get your certificate. In TX the midwife just files it the same way the doctors do.

i didnt even have a midwife, but all i had to do was get a confirmation i was pregnant from a dr, signed affidavit from an attendant, proof of residency, and a few forms of id, and took it to the city where i had the baby, and they filled it out and filed it.
