At my last appointment my cnm had to tell me she had a little bit of bad news. Her malpractice insurance insurance has to be renewed every six months and this time around it is not allowing her to to water births The good news though was that I can still labor in the tub at the hospital and if Ethan comes fast enough there is nothing she can do about it;) So now I'm really hoping that it only takes a couple of pushes for this little guy to get here so I can have the waterbirth I've been looking forward to.

What's she going to do? Drag you out by your armpits? Walk out of the room & refuse to deliver your baby until you start behaving? Get in the tub, and then just don't get out, and make sure DH knows to back you up on it!

Besides, no professional birth attendant is going to interrupt a laboring woman who is focused & handling things well to say "OK, let's get on the bed now!" My midwife sat on the edge of my bathtub, on the metal runner for the glass shower door, for an *hour* because the shower was apparently my chosen position to deliver Alison. Good luck!

Oh she's not going to drag me out of the tub, it's just really annoying that technically she's not supposed to do waterbirths right now because of the malpractice insurance. They'd drop her if they found out about it unless the baby comes very quickly. I found her from waterbirth.org, but right now she's not supposed to advertise that she attends waterbirths.

....But, where exactly are you located in Oregon? We have had the same problem with malpractice insurance in my area also, and it has affected everything. We have lost several doctors because of it too. Some moved away, and some only practice Gynecology now instead of Obstetrics also. Im trying to prepare for our next child..we are currently TTC#3, so it will be awhile, but Im trying to explore all my options, and am hoping for a water birth.

Thanks in advance:)
