I plan to labor in water (at home) for some pain relief. Do I need some kind of special tub for that? I remember seeing posts about renting birthing tubs, or ladies saying they'll buy some kiddie pools for that. Forgive my cluelessness, but why not just use the bath tub when it's much easier to fill and drain?

I figured that bath tubs might be not deep enough to cover the belly, but I don't see how kiddie pools are any better. Can anyone give me some insights?

You really want a tub that will support your belly if you are on your hands and knees. Some really old bathtubs are that deep, but most aren't.

There is a Kiddie Pool that is commonly referred as the "Fishy-Pool" because it has little fishies on it. It is deep enough to support your belly if you are on your hands and knees and it is really full - without risk of overflowing.

To fill it, you attach a hose to your shower head of your bathroom and fill it that way. To drain it, siphon it out a bedroom window with the same hose or into the bathtub. It's a bit more work, but not really that more difficult.
