What pain meds are safe to take after delivery while breastfeeding?

Tylenol and Vicodin, but not together. They're both acetaminophen. They used to give you Darvocet, too, but it's been pulled off the market. Ibuprofen 800.

In addition to what Mel said, Percocet is often given as the drug of choice for some moms. Tylenol 3 (codeine) used to be given, but it isn't used much anymore as there were a few bad effects. When I had a c-section 12 years ago it was percocet the first two days then tylenol 3 for a week or so after and of course ibuprofen piggybacked with the others.
In the first few days before your milk comes in the volume of colostrum your baby takes is very small so even though the drug does enter the colostrum a tiny bit of drug in a teeny tiny bit of milk/colostrum still makes for a very small dose for baby.

Ok, I took Percocet after my last 2 c-secs & it was sooooo helpful. But, I wasn't sure if it was safe while breastfeeding. Anything w/ codiene makes me loopy. I had it 1 time after my son was born while still in the hospital & I will never take it again! I didn't even want to hold him until it wore off because I was scared I'd drop him.
So you can take Motrin while breastfeeding but not during pg? Once I got to about day 5 after my c-sec I used just reg Motrin. I bottlefed so it didn't matter.

Yes, the fear while pg is in bleeding. I, personally, prefer the Vicodin.
The after-birth pains you experience while BF are horrendous after a c/s, so be prepared for that! It's normal, but they suck. A lot.

Hmmm.... I didn't have any extraordinary pain after either of my c-sections (and I bf'd after both). I had Vicodin while I was in the hospital, then switched to Ibuprofen - either 600 or 800, I can't remember which - within a day.

I readily admit to being a wimp. Those contractions during the first week were crazy, and no one had ever mentioned them to me so I thought something was wrong.

They gave me percocets for the first couple days. I rarly took. then there was another med they gave me when I got a spinal headache... no choice but to take that one. After matty, I had one dose of pain meds and nothing after... and would have been the same this time other than the headache. I have little to no pain after c/s
now teh afterbirth pains with #2 are HORRID. I had non with #1 and OMG... I thought I was going to die... felt like charlie horses in teh lady bits. NASTY. that I could have used horse tranqs for.
