I am reading Phil Plait'sBad Astronomy, which I am thoroughly enjoying. It's a book that sets out to debunk commonly held myths and misconceptions about astronomy. It's written for the layperson, is easy to follow and often quite amusing. I'm also reading sections of What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew and the Oxford Illustrated History of Britain.

Next up: The Crimson Petal and the White - I have heard so much about this book, I'm really eager to get started on it.

Other books on my nightstand: The Shipping News, Jane Austen's World by Deirdre LeFaye (a Christmas present that looks just beautiful) and another novel by the author of Good in Bed. The title escapes me right now.

I'm reading It's my F___ing Birthday by Merrill Markoe. It's okay. This woman has a terrible relationship with her parents and lets them walk all over her, kind of odd. I'm not sure I could recommend it, but I'm planning to finish it.

Next I plan to read a book that Kathleen mentioned a few weeks ago Between Ourselves: . Oh, I don't know the exact title or author, but it's letters between mothers and daughters.

I finished The Lovely Bones last week. It was different from what I expected. My mom just read it, too, and we talked about it, agreeing that it was really a story about grieving. I loved the main character, Susie, and using her voice as an omnipresent narrator was a great idea for the book.

I also read Janet Evanovich's High Five this week. I'm enjoying the development of the characters in this mystery series!

Next up: I just started The Bookshop last night, so Susan, I can let you know what I think. :) I have Hot Six and Prodigal Summer on my nightstand, as well as Small Wonder, a recently published book of essays by Barbara Kingsolver that I think will be great to read along with P.S..

I'm finally finishing Love Medicine. It seems like a million years since I started that darn book! My best friend just happened to have Skipping Christmas on hand, so I think I'll read that. A bit after the fact, but that's how it usually is with me:) I don't know what's after that. Maybe I'll read Emma or the next book on the reading circle.

Don't post here much because I don't have time to read like I used to but I am reading an excellent book called "Keeping House: Women in Western PA from 1790-1850". Its a history of fashion, child care, housekeeping and other aspects of womanhood during this period in this area. A most excellent book!

My brother sells books on ebay (meek@mindspring.com) and when I told him I was looking for this kind of stuff, he managed to find several such books for my for Xmas! :D

How on earth a book addict like me missed this board, I'll never know!

I just finished White Oleander and the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. The book I have going now is Nora Robert's Midnight Bayou. If you like dialogue, she's a master!

This week I finished up Janet Evanovich's Visions of Sugar Plums which was her first disappointment for me. It was a mini Stephanie Plum novel and was plotless, vague and weird. After a bit of Susan Elizabeth Phillips fluff that I didn't really care for either, I am finally into our Prodigal Summer. I really enjoyed this book the first time around and look forward to discussing it here. :)

I just read "I Don't Know How She Does It" by Allison Pearson. It was just OK. The author is British and the story takes place in London so some of the slang and colloquialisms went right over my head.

It's the first book I've read since my DD was born 9 1/2 months ago - it was so nice to sit down and read!

I just finished Michael Crichton's newest Prey. I couldn't put this down! It is a bit of a techno thriller, about a swarm of nanoparticles let loose in the desert. It was really great and I'm sad that I read it so fast.

It's the first book I've read since my DD was born 9 1/2 months ago - it was so nice to sit down and read! It's funny, but I have always read the most when my kids were newborns and young babies. I spent so much time sitting in a comfy chair nursing; I used that time to read as well. :) Once they get older and are mobile my reading time becomes harder to find.

Lisa Jo - you reminded me that this was NOT the first book I've read since DD was born!!! I can't believe that I forgot about all those books I read when she was a newborn and nursing every 10 minutes :)! I can't believe I forgot about those!

It is the first book I've read since she was about 4 months old and began co-sleeping with us. Now, at almost 10 months, she is sleeping in her crib which gives me that great time in bed to read1
