I read about this in my local newspaper and checked out the website. The site is called www.bookcrossing.com (http://www.bookcrossing.com) and the idea is that you share books anonymously with people you don't even know. http://www.storknet.com/boards/tongue.gif This is from their homepage: The "3 Rs" of BookCrossing...

Read a good book (you already know how to do that)

Register it here (along with your journal comments), get a unique BCID (BookCrossing ID number), and label the book.

Release it for someone else to read (give it to a friend, leave it on a park bench, donate it to charity, "forget" it in a coffee shop, etc.), and get notified by email each time someone comes here and records journal entries for that book. And if you make Release Notes on the book, others can Go Hunting for it and try to find it!I love this idea, and plan to "release" a few books myself. http://www.storknet.com/boards/smile.gif

Question: What is the first book you would set free for someone else to find?

My answer: Into the Forest by Jean Hegland

Neat! http://www.storknet.com/boards/smile.gif

I can't choose one, it's too hard! I guess I'll pick something not terribly well-known to release, figuring that everyone is already able to find a copy of Pride and Prejudice if they want it, lol.

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov

First runner-up: The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera

I would leave The Singing Creek Where the Willows Grow: The Rediscovered Diary of Opal Whitely Edited by Benjamin Hoff.

How cool is that? I would love to be the one to find a book. http://www.storknet.com/boards/smile.gif I have not read anything worth leaving in a long while. http://www.storknet.com/boards/redface.gif

You know, I remember in March when we were reading The Red Tent, someone posted here that she found a copy of the book somewhere. I think she said in a parking lot or something. Now I'm wondering if someone "released" this book and she found it? I love this idea. http://www.storknet.com/boards/smile.gif

I'm having a hard time coming up with just one book, too. I think I'll do this one:

The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

Thank you for posting about this wonderful idea, Lisa!

That is too cool!! http://www.storknet.com/boards/smile.gif

I'm going to go through my old books and see what I'd like to release! I can't think of anything right off hand. Most of the books I have I don't want to part with, and I also get a lot of my books at the library, so I certainly can't "release" those!
