I give august is 4oz and i can tell when he's done cuz he just sits at the bottle and stares around. Well when i take it out.. give it a few seconds and he roots for more. Also, i've noticed he'll keep eating or at least sitting on the bottle for as long as he wants. i try to break his attentiion onto other things and it works for awhile... then he's rooting again. I'm not starving him.. i give him what he wants.. but it just seems when he's awake he always roots.
Anyone else notice this too?
My first thought, looking at the age of your baby, is 6-week growth spurt. Is this new or recent behaviour? It might tail off in a few days. I don't know if he is finishing his bottles but as a general rule, if a ff baby finishes every bottle, increase the amount by 1oz for each feed, this is the way they build up to bigger but fewer feeds :)

Does he seem to be hungry again a few minutes after each feeding or does he just seem to want to comfort suck?

alice still does that! lol. after i was sure she was getting enough food (1/2 an oz can make all the differnece to her), i'd switch the bottle for her pacifier. if she just wanted to suck, she'd be content w/ that. if she spat it out, it meant more food! lol. i never wanted to give her the paci but she felt so much better for having something to suck on all day.

Both of my guys do this too.
My Mom finally suggested a pacifier. I didn't want to start that, but I finally got so desperate, especially when Ella started eating so much she'd throw up. It works!
If they keep rooting after 3 ounces (that is the most I like to give at a feeding), I try the pacifier. Most times they take it, suck and fall asleep. Occasionally, if they really are still hungry, they won't take it so I make them another ounce. Then I cut them off, lol!
I think they just want to keep sucking. If you don't have a problem with a pacifier, try it.
