After what feels like an eternity, we have finally decided on a homebirth!
I have posted here about everything from the difficulties at my old OB's office to the financial aspects to basic questions about homebirth, and it seemed to take forever to make a decision, but we feel very confidant and excited that this is the path to take!
I have already met with the midwife and she seems wonderful and has come highly recommended. In fact, I was talking to someone yesterday who was in labor for 30 hrs, stuck at 9 cm for hrs and hrs, with another midwife. The midwife we will be using came to her and was able to do something to get her unstuck right away and she described her presence as a "breath of fresh air."

We are going to an OB I like one or two times to get an u/s but that is it.
We are very excited and relieved to have decided . I am looking foward to restarting prenatal appts- it will have been two months. (Don't worry, I have been taking good care of myself and keep an eye on myself)
I feel like telling the world, because we are so excited, but I am afraid not everyone will be so supportive. So, I will be telling a select few. But posting it here is like telling the world, so I feel better!

YAY! Congratulations!

I wish we had such options here... but assisted homebirths are illegal in my state, and we're not QUITE comfortable with unassisted. Not that I'm pregnant, either, LOL! Who knows what we'll decide (or whether the law will have changed) by then...

It is a relief to know what you are doing, isn't it? I felt much the same when I switched from OB to Birth Center, even though I had really liked one of the OBs in the old practice. It just felt right.

HOORAY! Some people do make me nervous about choosing home births (not that *I* get to pick for them, nor do I bug them about it), but you have certainly done your thinking and asking questions.

Hedra,
I always said that it was illegal in my state, too. It is. But as I researched, I found out that it was not the homebirth that is illegal, and there are no legal issues for DH and I. I was surprised to find out that everyone knows who the midwives are that do homebirths and that even though they can be brought up on misdemeanor charges for practicing medicine without a license, it is all pretty open.

Congratulations on choosing a home birth. I just had one 9 days ago and can say it was so much better than when I delivered in the hospital. I thought a home birth was going to be messy but it wasn't at all. Congratulations again and good luck.
