I'm not sure what part of the state you are in, but I have contacts if you seriously want to find a midwife. I belong to a group called birthNETWORK that was started by a local (to me) mom and has since branched out into parts of Canada and Ohio- one purpose is to help moms find care providers. If you are in the UP, I don't know anyone, but if you are down here, write me and I'll see what I can find out for you. :)

We're up on the thumb of the UP. The nearest cnm that I can find is in Marquette, and that's a 2 hour drive (in good weather). There's a lay midwife that's only a 30 min drive away, but my insurance doesn't cover her, and we can't afford to pay for her entirely out of pocket. If you know of any other cnm up here I would love to know where she is :) Thanks for the help!!!

http://www.hmr-obgyn.com/ might be far for you, and still does hospital deliveries it looks like. birthNETWORK doesn't have any members up there, but I will ask around. :)

Yeah, they're a little too far for me. They're farther than Marquette even. The time of year that I'm due combined with the weather up here makes it necessary to have someone nearby. If you know of anyone in the keweenaw, or closer to the keweenaw then that would be great. My ideal birth would be a water birth, but they don't have tubs at the hospital here. If I can't find a cnm, then I have at least found the most flexible ob in the area. She's a DO which makes her more open to natural methods than the other ob that delivers at the same hospital. I may just refuse to get out of the shower when it's time to push :) Then I'd get a form of water birth. Thanks again for all your help!!
