Hello I am latiesha cirino. I have a four year old and am 4 months pregnant now. My former pre-natal doctor did not detect the pre-ecclampsia until my 28th week, that was a monday I had my son that saturday. I had pressures of 200/120 and that was when Iwas asleep. It was a very frighting experience for me being my first child. I was on alot of medication so that I wouldn't go into seizures. I had a emergency c-section and I was told in most cases your pressure should start to go down after the birth. WRONG I went from stable to critical I had fevers of about 106 and my pressure was still high. I didn't start to feel good again until 3 days after the birth. As for my son he was 2pounds 8 ounces and very healthy but very small. Now that I am pregnant again I am very scared to go through this again I am surrounded by different doctors now and they make me feel at ease. Well thats my story!!!

My story is a little like yours but not quite as scary. My doctor did not detect pre-eclampsia at any point, but I'm pretty sure I had it. I reached L&D with b.p. of 180/140, protein in my urine, and a baby suffering from retarded growth for at least 6 weeks. I also had symptoms like severe edema and headaches. For me, too, the b.p. went up after the birth, and remained high for at least 3 more weeks.

Are you doing anything different this time around, asides from switching doctors? More careful monitoring, perhaps? Were you prescribed aspirin? The midwife on "ask a midwife" says to eat a lot of protein. Nobody really knows what brings on toxemia, so nobody knows exactly how to prevent it. Which means there is no point worrying - just be aware, and take care.

Here's hoping that both of us make it through our current pregnancies without pre-eclampsia!

well yes I have changed doctors and right now I am taking calcium magnesium vitamins that are supposed to decrease the risks of getting toxemia again. Like you said there is not really much I can do but just hope and pray for the best. I am really scared though but my husband is great in all of this so is my support group. I really just taking it day by day. I am having another c-section I am not looking foward to that I just really want to get the whole thing over with so I can meet my new baby.
