My sil just had twins. She was already in the hospital with preterm labor, but yesterday her water broke, and the baby started coming out breech before they could take her cerclage out so the baby ripped her wide open. She was losing so much blood that the blood flow to the second baby was compromised and after 3 hours they felt a need to do a c-section. This doctor said he wouldn't do a c-section unless he had to, and he didn't think that she would need one going in, even with twins, but with the major blood loss and low heart rate in the baby he didn't want to take risks (he delivered her first three vaginally and has a really low c-section rate even being a high-risk OB, he was my OB before I went AWOL looking for a female birthing team). The made a mistake after the c-section and had to re-open her to fix something, while baby two was whisked to NICU. Did I mention they were 10wks early? ACK!!! After three vaginal, two drug free, births in a city hospital, she had the horror birth! To be ripped open, then cut open twice, and have the babies across the hospital when you are drugged beyond belief. The only good news is that they are not planning on more kids. She was supposed to have a tubal while in the hospital but they can't do it because she's not well enough. After that who would want to do it again?
