I'm finally onto the kids' bathroom! I haven't done anything because I had no idea what to do. I want something fun and whimsical for the kids yet still blends in with the rest of the house.

Right now it's tropical fish which I am done with. Although I do have a nice wooden fish mobile that I got in Hawaii in there that I'll hate to take down, I am ready for something new.

A friend suggested a safari/African theme...what do you think? I think that can be fun but still with a mellow feel so it will blend in with the rest of the house. The walls in the hallway it feeds into is a light taupe. Maybe if I went with a darker taupe, some white or off-white towels lined with an animal print trim, and some neat accessories? Any other ideas? (We have a shower door in there so I won't need a curtain)

The tile floor is a light beige, white fiberglass tub surround, white countertop/sinks, white toilet, and oak cabinetry. None of that will change.

we have tropical fish, lol! I stenciled colorful fish all over the bottom half of the wall, it came out awesome!

I think an african/safari theme would be cool. I know that I saw some nice African prints at Target to hang on the wall. The taupe color sounds nice :)

show pix when you are done!

I did a bathroom in a leopard print wallpaper once! Turned out a bit more masculine than you may want for a kids bathroom, but still VERY fun! Soften it with light beige towels with leopard print accents and a white fluffy fake-animal-skin shaped rug... hmmmm

Or I saw a very cool beigey Hawiian print wallpaper. It had huge red edged hyacinths. Maybe the fish mobile could work into a more Hawiian theme?

Are you looking for whimsical as in 'cute' or 'cool'? Rubber ducks or astrological symbols? A DaVinchi motif is always fun, but not if your kids are really little. Maybe stars and moons? Alot of that could be done with a neutral background and freehanded gold metallic stamping.

What about a "Game" theme. Like board games, children's games, some nostalgic, some new. You could use greens or blues for accents...

Or a forest/field/treehouse theme....

I like the idea of an African safari theme, but I also love Australian animals...outback? Jeeps, wallabies, and of course a platypus!

I've decided to go with the safari theme, and make it mellow, calm, but yet, still fun. I'm kinda bummed actually because my brother just recently went to Africa and did go on a safari (in Malawi) and could have gotten me some memorabilia, had I thought of this sooner.

Anyhow...

What do you think? Target carries this (framed!) and I want to put it on the wall that faces the door. It is a vintage print of an actual old travel ad. The other wall art will be similar in the mellow style.

I love that print, Sharon! Very cool. :) Remember, we want to see pictures when you are done!
