Since DH and I have made a pact not to buy any more books right now, I can merely daydream. ;) What books would you buy if money was no object?

1. Oxford English Dictionary - 20 volumes for $995, what a bargain!

2. Jane Austen: The World of her Novels by Deirdre LeFaye - I'm an Austen fanatic and my library doesn't have it

3. complete works of Georgette Heyer - most are out of print, my library has very few and I really enjoy frivolous reading

4. Bridget Jones' Diary - I decided to buy the DVD so I could ogle Colin Firth, but sometimes I wish I had picked the book instead

5. about 50 childhood classics that I want to share with Susy J someday :)

Great question! Here are some ideas I came up with:

~ I'd love to have shelves and shelves of picture books, just like a library. (Of course, I'd also get to meet each of the authors for a chat and have them sign their books!)

~ How about signed first editions of all of my favorite books?

~ All works by Margaret Atwood, Maya Angelou, May Sarton, Shirley Jackson... all of my favorite writers.

~ Okay, let's just put it this way. I'd love to buy a whole bookstore!

Norma, my hat is off to you! I haven't had the courage to tackle Proust yet. Part of the problem is that I foolishly bought some of his work in French when I was feeling ambitious. Now I feel like reading in translation would be cheating, but I never seem to have enough energy to read it in the original. ;)
