I am about to start shopping for a new stove and would love to hear what others have been happy with :D
We have gas and I guess it's considered best? I am not terribly fond of gas, but will probably stick with it.
I love the (electric) glass tops, but they are *so* slow.
What do I need to look out for?
What are you happy with?
My biggest consideration right now is that it has a window for my ds to watch thru, lol.

Hey I was going to ask for recommendations for a Range too. So instead of making my own I will combine with yours.

I am looking for an electric range and want to know how well the smooth surfaces work and clean. I am used to using the coil burners. I am afraid that I will scuff or scratch them if a pan slides on the surface. Does the heat transfer well regardless of the levelness of the bottom of your pans?

Consumer Reports rate the GE brand electric range as excellent. But I am uncertain about the smooth surface. Those of you who have them, do you love them?

My parents use paper towels, soft scrub, and sometimes a razor blade ( and never a sponge) to clean their old corning glass top. They have had it for 30+ years and it's in great shape! It is slow to heat though, as is my SIL's few-year old glass top. Takes FOREVER to boil water!
What does consumer reports say about gas ranges?

We just bought a new stove in the past three years. We bought a GE Spectra, Profile Performance, glass top and I adore it!

We wanted gas, but my husband burns everything and I got so tired of scrubbing burners and replacing the plates.

So we went with this electric one and I am so happy. I think it heats up very quickly but my favorite thing by far is the oven. It has a probe that you use and have the oven turn off when your meat gets to a certain temperature. So I can program my oven, put my meat in and have it ready when I get home. It has a convection oven with it as well and I think it bakes so wonderfully.

For cleaning the cook top, I use the Dawn Power Dissolver. Spray that on and let it sit. Then I wipe it down with a wipe or wet papertowel.

I am very, very happy. Just wish I hadn't bought it in white!

I have a Whirlpool Super Capacity 465 range. It has the nice flat surface on top and it has little lights to tell you if the burner is still hot. It also has a window so you can see what is baking. Jacob loves to push the hand towel aside and watch whatever is cooking in the oven! :)

Having it to cook a Thanksgiving meal in was nice too because the oven is HUGE!!! :)

I just got a new Maytag stove Monday. It is the newest on they have designed. It Is the glass top electric and it has a larger than normal burner for large pots and skillets (I love this feature) It outpreforms my Frigidaire that died Thanksgiving day (whole nothe story) It cooks even and with a good speed. I am really impressed with it.

As far as cleaning it is easy for baked on items wet it and use a razor blade or a scrubber sponge (not an SOS). I also use the polish once a week on mine. I have had the glass models for years and love the ease of care when it comes to cleaning them.

Another vote for the GE Profile Spectra (black with stainless steel door) - I've had it since last January and I am very, very happy. I don't like electric stoves, so I have the gas model. I also just use orange cleaner on my stove to clean it -- let it sit on tough stains, and it cleans up with no trouble.

I had a 25 year old stove that was a real pain to clean, because it had accumulated crud from the last owner :mr.pukey: I haven't had a problem cleaning the new stove.
