What books helped you deal with labor? I would like to aviod an epi this time (with the help of a doula) and also shorten my labor.

I took the childbirth class with my first and it wasn't really a help for me. I want to start reading but I am clueles where to start.

TIA!!!

I thought these were wonderful books:
The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth
The Birth Partner
A Good Birth, A Safe Birth
The Birth Book (Sears)

Did you take the hospital classes with your first? Many women don't find those classes helpful. I would suggest you look for an independant class, if you can. Sometimes they are expensive, but can be worth it in the end.

Everytime a friend of mind announces a pregnancy, I would love to get these four books for all of them.

The Birth Book by Sears
The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth
Immaculate Deception II by Suzanne Arms
The Bradley Book by McCutcheon

I just have to plug support for StorkNet here. If you order them through the bookstore (and all of these are there) you will help to support the site!

Actually all of them are in the VBAC cubby recommended reading list and you can get to that from the link in my signature (reading list link is on the left). :D

I am really enjoying Birthing From Within. I am also taking a class based on the book. I haven't given birth yet, so I can't attest to its efficacy, but I have a feeling it's a matter of individual fit rather than a book that serves everyone equally well. So maybe look until something really gels for you!

I second Bithing From Within. And I also really liked Mind Over Labor. They both helped me to have a natural,. unmedicated birth last time.

Hi - I had a book called "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way" - now my labour turned out to be anything but natural - but that had nothing to do with the book. I believe the techniques in the book allowed me to manage the pain of picotin labour as well as possible. I think if I did have a non-induced labour the techniques would have been fantastic. I also find it very positive and really gave me a good mindset. The last section is a bit "anti-establishment" and when I looked through it before it scared me a bit so I skipped it - in retrospect I wish I had of paid more mind to it. Oh - the pictures are a little dated as well but overall I highly recommend it!

Hey, Whit, this is off topic, but I was checking out your picture link (Gorgeous Children, BTW!~) What kind of sling are you wearing in that photo with the hat? It looks really comfy-- Just wondering.

It's a Maya Wrap. I LOVE it. I have two--one for each kid. :)
