VBAC DEcision finally made!!!

I have been lurking around here for a few weeks now but now I feel as though it is time to speak up!

We had our 16 week appt this morning and told the doc we wanted to give the VBAC a go! It felt very scary but like we were doing the right thing. This is my husbands first chils and my second. All along he has been disappointed that we weren't going throught this together for the first time. Well, we talked a lot this weekend about a VBAC and decided that it would be a great thing to do together and there is no reason why we can't make it work.

When we talked to the doc she said we had over a 70% chance of being successful. I wish the odds were a little better but I've decided to be very optimistic.

It makes me smile to type this because I know we have made the right decision.

Well, considering that in most of the US, the odds of a successful first vaginal birth (regardless of c-section prior) are around 75% (or less!), that's not bad odds. (we tend to think of the odds of a first vag birth as 100% - but in the US, really, it is 25% chance of a c-section on a good day!).

Can you get ahold of your vital stats for your state? A few years back, my state's VBAC rate was actually better than the primagravida (first baby) vaginal birth rate. Not outstanding even then (my state sucks - many too many c-sections!), but it was interesting that when they split out the first labors (untested) and compared to the second-labors (previous c-section) there were *more* women who had already had c-sections that delivered vaginally! It was almost 80% successful VBAC compared to less than 70% for vaginal first births. :) and :eek:

Glad you and your DH found a way to make this a 'first' for both of you!
