We got one of these swings yesterday, and although it does seem like a really nice swing, the motor on ours is very loud -- it makes a wooshing-clicking kind of a sound. Is that normal for this swing, or do we have a defective one? TIA

It does make a clicking sound, but I don't notice it as that loud. But then again, the old wind-up one was REALLY loud, so this one is very much an improvement. I think Dylan even likes the clicking sound, cause it's so monotonous, it helps him sleep (like the sound in a car, or on a train).

Well, it will make noise, but shouldn't be very loud. Mine's not. If you think it sounds too loud, exchange it.
Actually, Jack is sitting in it right now, almost right next to me and I can barely hear it.....so.....

Just got a Fisher Price Smart Response Swing myself and ours makes a clicking noise too.
It bothered me at first but I think the constant click actually lulls my baby girl to sleep believe it or not.
How great are they!!!!

I am not sure about that swing, but we have 2 other fisher price swings that make that same sound, louder than our graco swing (yes we are swing junkies!!). Honestly, the sound was calming to Tricia especially in the younger days. The rythmic swish click sound seemed to get her attention and help her fall asleep.
HTH!
